Te Muka Rau is a small philanthropic trust, and our aim is to contribute to “a socially cohesive Aotearoa New Zealand where Te Ao Māori is strong and vibrant, where the central place of Te Ao Māori in Aotearoa is understood and supported by all, and where we all feel confident and respected in our own cultures and heritage.”

Here you can find out more about us, check how we work, see the organisations we’ve funded, or contact us if you’d like more information.

Te Muka Rau is an active member of Philanthropy NZ.  We contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals below, and we are proud to be accredited by the Foundation Center’s GlassPockets service as a transparent philanthropic funder.  Thanks also to Groundwork: Facilitating Change  and to our regular donors for their contributions to the grants Te Muka Rau provides.

Te Muka Rau was formerly called “Think Tank Charitable Trust,” prior to being gifted our new name, which translates as “the many strands.”   This refers our commitment to social cohesion – by weaving together many different strands we can create new, strong and beautiful possibilities.
